this original redwing blackbird painting is a textural, mixed media work done on a piece of hand carved birch wood and framed in an antique wood box from the late 19th century (late 1800s-1900). the box was originally hand painted and designed with a gorgeous amount of pyrographic detail featuring flowers and leaves. it is in fantastic condition for its age.

what makes this special: in addition to the gorgeous details of the frame, materials include vintage postage stamps, vintage paper, plus book lining, packaging, and handwritten letters from the 1800s.

during the time period when this box was created, pyrography, still around today, became a popular craft due to marketing of the craft in women's magazines and the introduction of mass-produced pyrography tools one could purchase in shops to try at home. the box was most likely created to house a pair of gloves or a collection of little treasures.

this is a continuation of the "objet d'art" series-the painting and the frame are considered a single piece of art, and the artwork was created for this particular frame. in this case, the redwing blackbird has been set in the box. the painting has been created to compliment the tones of its frame.

the artwork can be displayed with either the doors open or closed. due to the age of the box, please handle the work with care. the back of the box has a French cleat for wall display, constructed by a professional framer. the painting can also be displayed on a flat surface.

size is approximately 9.5" in width, and 9.5" in height. the painting is about 1" in depth. all of my paintings can be handled. they look great on their own, or buy a bunch and display them together!
