this original mourning dove bird nest soft dreamy painting is the ideal addition to a mantle, side table, desk, or shelf. it also has a hanging wire for wall display (the image of the back of the painting was taken before the hanging wire was added). this textural, mixed media painting is done on a piece of antique cotton cloth from a farm in iowa. material is from the mid-1900's, if not older. the fabric has been affixed to textural repurposed wood purchased from a local furniture maker. i love giving new life to materials that otherwise would be discarded.

materials also include handmade antique lace, natural-dyed sashiko thread, antique sewing thread, vintage postage stamps and paper, handwritten letters and paper from the 1800's, and gold leaf flakes.

i call this painting, "held". mourning doves have always amazed me. more often than not, their nests are poorly crafted and very fragile. and yet, the mourning dove population abounds right outside my studio, with mourning doves perching and calling at the studio windows. sometimes they even take a peek at me working!

i chose these materials, and the "cracked" wood to enhance the concept of being safe, being held no matter how fragile you feel, or how precarious life can be.

sides of this painting are soft brushed gold. palette is dreamy, soothing, soft tones of taupe, cream, lilac, gray.

size is approximately 9.5" in width, and 10" in height. the painting is about .75" in depth. all of my paintings can be handled. they look great on their own, or buy a bunch and display them together!
