this original encaustic painting, entitled " memory" has been created using an irregularly-shaped piece of reclaimed wood purchased from a local furniture maker. he sells me his scraps, so I'm never sure what I am going to get, which is part of the creative inspiration.
I've always wanted to experiment with encaustic and enjoyed how the wax adhered to the textured wood. materials include antique cotton fabric I painted with colored pencils and inks, then stitched with antique thread, handwritten letters from the 1800s, antique lace from the early 1900s, and gold leaf. painting has a hook for immediate wall display
the piece is meant to have a dreamy, soft tone and palette.
the encaustic painting process involves heated beeswax and resin, with materials such as colored pigments added. your encaustic painting can be displayed in a moderate temperature (no extreme heat or cold) in indirect light. the painting comes with care and display instructions.
with it's soft blues, teals, greens and lilac, this painting is the perfect addition to a soft, soothing space. sides are layered teal and lilac. top and bottom incorporate gold leaf and paper netting for additional texture. size is approximately 9" in height, 3.5" in width, and 1" in depth.
