this original painting of a chipmunk is done on an antique gorgeous late 1800s thick wood frame in the black forest aesthetic. the frame is made out of a single piece of wood, and originally featured a photographic portrait of a woman from the era. the photograph was originally surrounded by a woven yellow silk cord that I have stained deep brown and coated to keep it from unraveling. the frame and the painting have incredible detail and texture.
part of the ongoing objet d'art series: I add original paintings to antique frames primarily from the 1800s through early 1900s. the painting and the frame are considered one piece. in this case, after removing the attached photograph, I cleaned up the wood beneath to paint the chipmunk on. I recommend displaying the artwork in indirect light to protect the wood and the painting.
the frame is in fantastic condition with the expected wear of an antique frame of this age. size of the painting is 13" in diameter, and .5" in depth.
materials include vintage paper and postage stamps, handwritten letters from the 1800s.
a great gift for chipmunk fans, antique collectors, all-around nature lovers. a perfect accent for a cabin by the woods, a countryside home, or an ornate space filled with antiques.
