this original painting of a posing barn owl is done on a piece of hand carved birch wood and framed in a beautiful, arts and crafts era (late 1800s through early 1900s) handcrafted wood frame.

part of the ongoing objet d'art series, I've been collecting antique frames and boxes to serve as homes for original paintings. I carve birch wood to fit the often irregularly-shaped frames and boxes. setting the art into its "frame," I consider the painting and the framing a single piece of artwork.

what makes this special: in addition to the beautifully crafted and carved frame, which is in excellent condition given its age, materials include vintage postage stamps, book lining from the 1800s, and handwritten letters from the 1800s. and I love how the owl poses for its portrait.

the frame can be propped up on a flat surface (please note: there is no easel backing on the frame) or displayed on a wall by the ring. I recommend hanging the art on a nail in indirect light. a professional framer has added backing to the frame to secure the painting. the artwork has been signed on the back of the frame.

size is approximately 6" in width and 9" in height. the painting is about .5" in depth.
