part of my objet d'art series: this original painting of a little wren bird has a little hook for immediate wall display (i recommend hanging from a nail). this textural, mixed media painting is done on a piece of hand carved birch wood and is framed in a beautiful pyrography frame from 1890. Pyrography or "writing with fire" became a popular creative expression in the Victorian era due to the invention of pyrography machines and the promotion of the craft in women's magazines. The term "pyrography" was coined during this time, replacing the former term, "pokerwork".

the floral frame of tulips, stems and leaves has a lovely patina and texture. the wren's background was a challenge to capture-the bird rests of a rich naple's yellow to enhance the tone of the frame's flowers.

materials are applied layer by layer and then allowed to dry before the next application. this gives the paintings a great amount of depth and detail. materials include handwritten antique letters from the 1800's, vintage doilie, vintage paper, vintage postage stamps and rose gold leaf.

in the objet d'art series, the painting and the frame are considered one piece. overall size is 10" width/height and .25" depth. please keep in mind that the piece should be handled with care to avoid damage. the painting can easily be removed through the back of the frame. the painting has been signed on the back.

this sweet little wren is the perfect addition to a soft, eclectic space. a great gift for antique seekers, avid gardeners and bird watchers, wren fans or nature enthusiasts.
