this original flying owl bird starry sky rabbit farmhouse sculpture painting is the ideal addition to a mantle, side table, desk, or shelf. this textural, mixed media painting is done on a thick block of repurposed wood. i buy all of my wood from a local furniture maker, and am never sure what he is going to sell me, which adds to the creative inspiration. this piece has a nice shape and a lot of texture.

the sculpture depicts a barn owl swooping through the night sky, a cottontail bunny rabbit sitting in the grass, and a farmhouse in the distance. materials include indigo-dyed sashiko thread attached by gold-toned tacks to depict the constellation of stars watching over the unfolding story. the piece can be handled, though with care as the materials are fragile. there are multiple ways to display the artwork on a flat surface.

materials are applied layer by layer and then allowed to dry before the next application. this gives the paintings a great amount of depth and detail. in addition to the sashiko thread and tacks, there is gold leaf, copper leaf, vintage postage and antique handwritten letters from the 1800's. the sculpture has a beautiful rustic style. top of the sculpture painting is the deep blue of the night sky. the owl, farmhouse and rabbit have been painted in mixed materials on vellum and applied to the wood. the background of all four sides is the lovely natural grain of the wood. the entire piece has been finished and sealed for safe handling. however, please treat the sculpture delicately.

size is approximately 3.5" in width, and 6.25" in height. the painting is about 2.5" in depth. all of my paintings can be handled. they look great on their own, or buy a bunch and display them together!
